I am a registered nurse who teaches cardiac rehab education. I have also been trying to practice what I teach—eating only chicken and fish, using olive oil, along with regular exercise. "I don't have to take medications anymore!"

What were my raw, whole foods habits before Food First? They weren't! Every morning for breakfast I would have eggs, hash browns, toast, biscuits and gravy, and a pot of coffee. Later, I'd stop on the road at convenience stores and buy whatever was 2 for $1- burritos, chicken strips, or other greasy food, with a diet Coke. Then I'd have a big dinner at home. I also thought that water was for fish; I drank soda all the time. It all started to add up; I was overweight and unhealthy. I had acid reflux and allergies. I was taking drugs for both and even need to get shots twice a week for the allergies.

I'd tried to lose weight before, even going to a gym, but I'm too lazy. At a trade show, I came across a Food First booth. The person at the booth told me about Pulse and said, "You can eat all you want of this and still loose weight." NOW he had my attention. I had wanted to lose weight for years, but nothing I did ever seemed to work. I started a Food First program and I found out he was right!

I lost 11 pounds on the 10-day program, and since starting in March, I've lost 23 and kept it off. I noticed on the thirteenth day of the program my allergies and acid reflux were gone and they haven't come back since. I haven't taken any prescription or over-the-counter drugs since March.

Three weeks after starting the program, the man who introduced me to the Food First asked how my weight loss was going. I said, "Who cares, I don't have to take medications anymore!" I started the program to lose weight, but getting off drugs was a great benefit for me.

I used to get up at 5:30 a.m. A few weeks into the program, I started waking up at 4 and 4:30 in the morning. I was worried about being tired, but then I realized I was done sleeping, I had my rest! Now I'm always up by 5, and my energy is 10 times what it was before.

I feel better, I look better, and it's all because I changed my habits. I can honestly say that all I changed was my diet. I now eat 2-3 cans of Pulse a day now; I just eat that all day long and then I have a healthy dinner with my wife. It's so convenient to eat Pulse throughout the day. I haven't had a soda since I began the program. I drink water all the time and just a little coffee, maybe ½ a cup every other day-when I feel like it, not when I have to have it. Before I started on Food First in January, I ate raw, whole foods regularly but ate more wheat products than my body wanted and fewer vegetables than it wanted. After starting on the program, I have been attracted to eating many more raw or stir-fried fresh vegetables and I have moved away from wheat and sugar, and I feel better without those in my diet.

I have never been attracted to drinking a great deal of water, but I've found that I drink more water when consuming Food First products. I also drink a great deal more water at work. I have not been drawn to eat empty caloric foods since starring on Food First products and have a feeling that I won't go back now that my body is feeling so much better.

I am becoming very attracted to exercising more. I taught dance aerobics for twenty years and quit about three years ago. I have recently been inspired to going back to teaching again.

I did not like to eat; I just ate because I had to."

My life is complicated (working at least 4-5 different jobs a week part-time) and Food First made it easier when I really do not have time to eat (at home or out). I always had energy and I never really had a weight problem. What I gained from Pulse was to eat something and not feel the effects of gas in the intestinal track. I will continue to see things improving as I incorporate raw, whole foods and water into my life.

Before I started on the program, I drank a good amount of water, but now I really notice when I don't drink it enough. I have never really been a pop drinker (thank goodness) and water is so important to the health of the human body. It is hard to tell people how important water is. It will even take a headache away!

My biggest motivator for starting Food First was to feel better and to enjoy eating again. Everything I ate would give me a lot of painful gas. Nothing was digested easily. I did not like to eat; I just ate because I had to. Since starting on the Food First program in April, I've had this problem under control. I have always exercised and I am very active for 56 years old. I can compete easily with the 20-30 year olds. Raw, whole foods are great "fuel" for exercise.

"I have not had one problem with acid reflux in over ten months."

I had a bleeding esophagus and a small ulcer. I made five emergency trips to the hospital in the last three years thinking it was a heart attack. Each time, it was concluded that my heart was very strong and that it was acid reflux. The doctor put me on prolisac and Previcid. Three years of taking that messed up my stomach and cost me $106 per month to keep relief. When I did the 10-day Food First program, my stomach stopped hurting, and the acid reflux totally disappeared on the eighth day. When I first tried the Food First 10-day program, the instructions on the Probiotic said to take on an empty stomach. I was determined to follow the program to perfection to either prove if it did or did not give the wonderful results I’d been hearing about.

I loved the Pulse from the beginning, and snacked all day long, so my stomach was only empty in the morning when I first woke up, and just before I went to bed at night. So, that’s when I took the Probiotic. My results were wonderful! I lost the weight I needed to, and most surprising of all to me, I lost more than an inch off my waist. I believe that this was greatly helped by the Probiotic, as my good friend went on the program at the same time I did, and even though she had a bit more weight to lose than I did, had much less dramatic results than I did. The only difference was I took the Probiotic and she couldn't stand taking it.

Now, I recommend to everyone that they need to take the Probiotic any way they can. Several friends have had success taking it with a small amount of yogurt, it isn't harmful to the probiotic from what I can see, and it helps the dry texture and strong “alfalfa” flavor that are hard for some to overcome. One other benefit that I found by taking the Probiotic at night was that it helped settle an upset stomach and it always stopped my late-night hunger and cravings. Our 8-year-old son has had suffered from allergies for about 4 years. He had been on a breathing machine at times as needed to help clear his lungs, but I didn't like the precautions on the drugs that were put in the machine. We went to a nutritionist who provided supplements which worked for about a year.

Last September I went to a local RN who writes for our local newspaper. Her articles talk about natural remedies and getting away from the chemicals of life, and I always agreed with her. I asked if she could recommend a natural doctor we could take our son to because I did not want to him to continue with the medications and all the side effects.

I jumped in and joined the company because I wanted to purchase the products at the lowest price and saw great potential. Our son had been taking a handful of supplements which were no longer doing him as much good since his eyes were swollen, red, crusty every morning when waking up in September, during ragweed season.

He started taking the Dynamic Plus as soon as I received it, 3 times a day with a little water and apple juice. Within 3 days, he was not bothered with the swollen, red crusty eyes as he had been. I have been an aerobics instructor for 13 years and have always stayed in good shape. What I didn’t know until after doing my first 10-day program, however, was how bad I really felt. By day 5 of my Food First program, I woke up a different person. I had so much energy! I felt great. All I had changed was my intake of raw, whole foods and water.

I started eating Pulse and using Dynamic Plus in November. I have been an aerobics instructor for 13 years and have always stayed in good shape. What I didn’t know until after doing my first 10-day program, however, was how bad I really felt. I always thought I could eat anything as long as I worked out hard. My clothes fit great and I wasn’t concerned about losing weight, so it mattered what I ate. I thought I was one of the lucky ones who could get away with eating whatever I wanted, as long as I kept up with my workouts.

The one thing that I couldn’t seem to figure out, however, was why I was always exhausted and always had a headache. I would go to my doctor and say, “something is wrong with me. I’m always so tired. I just don’t feel right.” He did some blood work and tested my thyroid. My thyroid test came back normal and he said, “You’re busy, you have 2 small children you chase after all day, and have interrupted sleep because of them. You’re tired because of all you do. Take a good multi-vitamin.” In other words, turn to secondary nutrition for a remedy. I was disappointed and felt like there was nothing I could do. I went and bought a multi-vitamin, but I didn’t feel any difference.

What my doctor didn’t do is ask me what I eat. People in my aerobics class would often say to me, “Shannon, I've been working out really hard and I'm not losing any weight. What do you eat?” I always hated it when they asked me that. I would say to them, “I don’t eat very healthy. I eat 2 donuts for breakfast almost every morning. I eat lots of chips with 1/2 a sandwich for lunch everyday and I eat Oreo cookies for a snack in the afternoon (I’m hypoglycemic, so the sugar helped me feel better when I felt that low sugar level). I often make chocolate chip cookies for a snack before going to bed.” They would look at me and say, “Oh, you’re one of those people who can eat whatever you want.”

Last fall, my husband and I were vacationing on the beautiful island of Kauai. We were staying at a bed and breakfast and the lady who owns it asked us if we wanted to come to a dinner party and learn about Pulse. We went and to our surprise, we really liked the taste of it. A distributor talked about how most people only eat 0-3 raw, whole foods each day and that by eating Pulse, we would eat 24 different whole foods in just one meal. He shared success stories of people lowering their cholesterol (which struck an interest in my husband who was on Lipitor for his high cholesterol at the time) and he also talked about individuals having more energy and a feeling of well-being.

It was at that meeting that I realized that the reason I felt so tired all the time was because I ate junk all the time. I felt tired and had headaches all the time because of my food habits; that’s why secondary nutrition—the multi-vitamin—didn’t help me.

We came back home and started the 10-day program. It was hard, especially the first 3 days. I had a sugar addiction that my body had to get rid of. By day 4, I started feeling better and by day 5 I woke up a different person. I had so much energy! I felt great. I didn’t have a headache. I accomplished so much. Everyday I woke up an hour earlier and felt great. All I had changed was my intake of raw, whole foods. After the 10 days, I started the Food for Life maintenance program.

I did fairly well on the maintenance, but found it easy to stray. In March, I recommitted myself to the program. I was starting to feel low energy and headaches again because my eating was slowly going back to the way I was eating before I learned about Pulse. I did another 10-day program. Once again, I felt great. I then returned to the Food for Life maintenance program with a strong commitment to eating a meal of Pulse everyday, which I have done. I still have some “junk,” but I don't have it very often. In March, before I started the second 10-day program, I tested my body fat and it was 17.5 percent. At the end of June, I tested my body fat again and it was 14.2 percent. I couldn't believe it.

It really is true what we say in the program: “Health is a habit, not an event.” It’s the simple things that we do consistently over time that causes our results (actions = results). These simple actions can cause health or cause disease. The simple and easy action of eating fast food meals causes negative results to our health and our waistline. The simple and easy action of eating raw, whole foods (Pulse or otherwise) everyday causes the positive results to our health and our waistline. It’s the habit of eating a meal of Pulse everyday that has helped me to lower my body fat 3 percent in 3 months. It’s the habit of eating a meal of Pulse everyday that has reduced my husband’s cholesterol—he hasn't taken it his medication since November.

My water intake has increased tremendously. I used to not drink water. I’d drink anything BUT water. I’d drink lots of juice and at least 1, if not 2 or 3, cans of soda everyday. Now I drink mostly water and rarely have anything else. Soda is just not something I want anymore.

It’s those habits that help me to feel great. I hear about people who are able to eat only whole foods all the time and I think that is wonderful for them. However, what I’ve found is that you don’t have to eliminate all the “pleasure” foods for the rest of your life. If you eat 1 meal of Pulse everyday, you will make a very positive change in your life. Not only will you increase your ratio of raw, whole foods from the average 0-3 to 24 or more, but you will also continue to crave healthier foods. Cravings for junk food will be minimal.

Most importantly, you will be affecting your health in such a positive way. I used to think I could get away with eating whatever I wanted if I stayed committed to my workout routine. Now I know that there is a much bigger and more important picture than fitting into my clothes. It is my future health. I want to live a long, healthy life and I know that by committing myself to eating a meal of Pulse everyday and eating other raw, whole foods throughout the day, minimizing foods that are not healthy for me, and continuing to exercise, that I am doing everything I can to stay healthy.

My approach to the Food First program is all about attitude.

I came to the conclusion that nobody could manage my health or my weight problem but me. But how to do that was a perplexing problem.

Over the last 38 years I have tried every diet out there and I lost weight. But I could not wait for the diet to be over so I could start eating the same things over again — the same things that had made me gain the weight in the first place. This yo-yo dieting had some serious effects on my health. My blood pressure was high, I have diabetes, I have had two angioplastys and I had a serious weight problem. I will admit that when Carolyn Beck tried to introduce me to the Food First I was very resistant. It took her five months to get me to seriously try the food. Resisting for five months is a decision I regret today.

On April 11, my husband Les and I started a Food First program to lose weight. We made an attitude adjustment. We decided we could do anything for 10 days. I came to the understanding I have always had the power within me to make choices. For years those choices were bad and had some very bad effects on my body.

At the end of 10 days we had both lost 11 pounds. To date Les has lost 39 pounds and I have lost 42. Les’ acid reflux is gone. My blood sugar came down from a high of 185 to 94 fasting. My blood pressure went from 165/95 to 114/64. Two months ago, after I had an echo cardiogram and walked the treadmill in the cardiologists’ office, she told me I was healthier now than I had been for several years. She explained that the natural sugar and the fiber in Pulse levels out my blood sugar and keeps it on an even keel. I am off all my medications.

Before the Food First, because of major back, neck and knee pain, I took two or three Extra Strength Tylenol every night just so I could sleep. With the use of the essential oils each day, Pulse and a proper diet, I am able to control the pain and I sleep through the night without any kind of pain killers.

Food First helped me break some major food addictions — chocolate, cookies, cake and junk food. Today I crave fruits and vegetables. We eat at least one serving of Pulse every day, usually with fruit for breakfast. Most days we will also have it for either lunch or dinner.

Pulse is great because if I’m on the go I have it in the car. There’s no more stopping for fast food. If we eat out, I make sure the restaurant serves fresh vegetables and healthy food. We are also making healthier choices.

I tell myself every morning, I choose to be happy, I choose to be healthy, I choose to be thin and I will make healthy choices today. It takes self-control and self-determination. But good health, good attitude, being thin and happiness are worth it.
